What is the difference between a Strategist and a Tactician?

Its one of those questions where we never really give much thought until we realise that both of them are similar but not quite the same. Like the crocodile and the alligator for example.

In my context, a Strategist is one who visualises the end-game and strives to see the obstacles in getting there. Strategists strive for prevention. They think of the strategy to counter the enemy's move before it was implemented. Strategists usually have good foresight such that they are able to second-guess the enemy's actions and stop them before they are able to mobilise. In other words, they strive to strangle the enemy to submission.

A Tactician however is in his element when the fighting dissolves to small skirmishes for a Tactician is best at work when under-pressure. Analytical and possessing good insight, a Tactician thinks of tactics AFTER the enemy makes his move. Instead of beating the enemy to submission, Tacticians either incapacitate or totally destroy the enemy. Though it is dependant on the nature of the Tactician.

I'm proud to say that I'm a Tactician rather than a strategist. Strategists are born leaders, those who have that foresight and that drive to propel them towards that goal while tacticians are there to get the team to the goal. In other words, Strategists give the team a reason to fight, that is the goal, while the tacticians are the ones who keep the team on their toes on the way there.

That aside, some people have been asking me why I'm sending her messages or pm-ing her even though she wont reply back.

Well, its not about whether or not she replies. Its about me letting her know that I'm still here and I still care.

And I'm not expecting much back

    =)
